CIS 2336 Overview
This course provides an introduction to Internet application development. This introduction includes both client and server side technologies.
Client side technologies include HTML for structure, CSS for presentation and Java Script for interactivity. Server-side technologies include PHP for middleware and MySQL for dynamic web applications. The course combines conceptual knowledge with hands-on experiences. Given our time constraints, it will not be possible to become an expert with each technology. Though, it is expected that each student will demonstrate a ‘Hands On’ understanding of Internet Application Development. By design, this course provides a foundation for more in depth learning and prepares students to do well in future classes and projects.
Who am I
My name is Sandra Lee a.k.a. Coder Sandie. I am a Junior at University of Houston majoring in Computer Information Systems (CIS) and my expected graduation date is May 2018. I am hoping that one day I'll start my career in software development and preferably Web Development I'm glad you came to my Learning Portfolio to showcase you what I have learned in this class. I really enjoyed this CIS 2336 class. It was my first time ever creating my own website using my creativeness through coding. This class sparked my interest to further pursue in Web Development and have been applying to internship that primarily focuses Web Development. Professor Ed Crowley
Instructor of CIS 2336
Ed Crowley, is an Instructional Associate Professor at the University of Houston. There, he has been instrumental in creating and obtaining NSA/CNSS certification for their Security Specialization classes. He has earned multiple NSA security certifications. And has also earned the Certified Information Systems Professional (CISSP) certification. In addition, he has earned the usual certifications from Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft, and Novel. Prior to joining UH, Professor Crowley was an IS director and network consultant. He has also worked as an educational media designer for Heathkit/Zenith. He is a graduate of the Military Police Academy, And was one of the US Army’s last German Shepherd Sentry Dog Handlers. He was always cared for our class and has sincerely wanted each students to succeed.

Role Model
Bill Gates is a technologist, business leader, and philanthropist. He grew up in Seattle, Washington, with an amazing and supportive family who encouraged his interest in computers at an early age. He dropped out of college to start Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen. He married Melinda French in 1994 and they have three children. Today, Bill and Melinda Gates co-chair the charitable foundation bearing their names and are working together to give their wealth back to society. I want to be a person who can impact the world through technology.

Programming Website
Codecademy is an online interactive platform that offers free coding classes in 12 different programming languages including Python, Java, PHP, JavaScript (jQuery, AngularJS, React.js), Ruby, SQL, and Sass, as well as markup languages HTML and CSS. This site truly helped each of our students to learn the code STEP-BY-STEP and I really enjoyed how the tutorials were set up. This gave me hope when I successfully coded right each section.
